Lo kashiya- people don't need or shouldn't seek to have the same exact experience they had before merely a have a frame of reference and a vocabulary of experience from which to draw.  Drug users often chase the first high they experienced while on a certain intoxicant, that is often what leads to overdose.  I think a similar but less physically dangerous risk exists for those attempting to re-encounter a particular t'filah experience. There isn't a risk of death but there is the potential for frustration and burn-out.  This shoukd not be the intention.  The repetition I mentioned above is less about achieving a repeat experience but rather about creating a breadth of experience from which to draw from when in spiritual need.  The repetitive nature of prayer, engaging in t'filah 3x a day is never completely replicable, like the layering of paint on a painting.  The paint can not occupy the same space as a previous sweep of the brush.  But just like the slight variation of shade that gives depth and texture, the variation in location and mood while engaging in prayer that allow for a breadth of experiences and encounters with God.4

smART: The Art of Understanding We see here that one who understands knows that with some hard work, he or she can uncover the hidden nugget, the starting point, the primal urge, from where one can artfully approach one's feelings, relationship with others and one's service of God. But what if one has no understanding to begin the process? Hence, we learn in Pirkei Avot the opposite! "the More counsel (eitzah), the more understanding (tevunah).  Thus this is an ongoing process where one begins with the the nekudah, that one can reach and then with that understanding can fish deeper and again deeper, each time growing and expressing as accurately as possible their soul. This is why in Pirke Avot 5:21, we see that a 30 year old enters wisdom and the 40 year old enter counsel. It takes a decade of hard work and understanding to uncover the best counsel (ה) עצה. היא ההסכמה איך יעשה להשיג התכלית,     וזה ע"י כח הבינה כמ"ש חז"ל מרבה עצה מרבה תבונה, ועז"א אבדה עצה מבנים (ירמי' מ"ט ז') את מי נועץ ויבינהו(ישעיה מ' י"ד), לו עצה ותבונה (איוב י"ב י"ג), וכמ"ש למעלה (ח'):

But sometimes we have to be careful because we can not always recreate the same experience.  In the acting world, this is why the stanislavski method of emotional recall does not work.  Experience is, by its anthroplogical notion, unique to the individual.

Sometimes th creative process is about layering, adding depth and creating texture.  So too with life experience and religious encounters.  prayer is highly repetitive, it not only creates a sense of familiarity but also creates an encyclopedia of experience one can draw from or to which we can relate.2
