Neal Schuster

Neal is the Rabbi and Senior Jewish Educator at Kansas Hillel since 2009. He grew up in what he describes as a religious Reform household, and was deeply involved in Jewish camping and youth group; a product of both the URJ's Camp Swig, and the Pacific Northwest region of NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth), which he served as both President and Vice-President in High School. Prior to entering Rabbinical School, he served the Jewish community as a teacher, a youth group leader, a NFTY in Israel trip leader, a regional NFTY Director, a regional NFTY Israel Programs Director, and as Program Director at the Westside JCC in Los Angeles. While in Rabbinical School, he served as the intern and then as the Director of the Berit Mila Program of Reform Judaism, as well as the instructor for several adult education programs throughout Los Angeles. He served as the student rabbi for Congregation B’nai Israel of Butte, Montana, as the Student Intern for Congregation Ner Tamid in Las Vegas, Nevada, and as the Education Intern for Temple Ahavat Shalom in Northridge, California. From 2003-2009 he served as one of the rabbis at Congregation B’nai Jehudah in Overland Park. He holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Washington, an M.A. in Jewish Education from the Rhea Hirsch School of Education at HUC-JIR in Los Angeles, as well as an M.A. in Hebrew Letters from HUC-JIR.
